WEDDINGS: Sweet Themes

When I was young, like millions of other little girls, I dreamed of my exquisite wedding. I found it difficult to see past my glorious white gown, and the look of adoration on the face of my, "equally exquisite" groom. As I look back now, I recall playing a part in several weddings, especially my daughter's and of course, my own. I have learned in the past few years that, hundreds of wedding themes are now available to the happy couple, requiring very little effort.

There are many websites that are dedicated to the bride and groom. Just take a look at these, to find the type of wedding theme that may be your hearts desire, some of my favorites are:

Before deciding on any wedding plan, you might want to consider the ancestry of the bride and groom. I have admired many beautiful weddings in which the couple incorporated the historic background of both families. No matter which countries are involved, you will discover a world of rich colorful traditions, that you can easily incorporate into your wedding celebration. My family and I are Scottish, but I want to give you some examples of several cultural themes for your wedding.
SCOTTISH THEME~~~~~

Scottish Wedding~~~Beautiful, colorful celebration
Old Scottish Wedding Traditions~~~Lovely and meaningful to Scottish descendants.
Penny-Bridal or Silver-Bridal~~~Ancient traditions.
These festivities, also known as "Penny Weddings", were renown for feasting, drinking, dancing and fighting and were enjoyed by all except the clergy - who disapproved of such raucous behaviour. Opinions that were wholeheartedly ignored! Gifts were given to the newlyweds, towards the cost of the wedding feast, and the wild celebrations started on the eve of the wedding with singing, and many toasts!
The Penny Wedding Procession~
The following day the bridal party made their way to the church, flower petals being thrown in front of the bride, but if they encountered a funeral or a pig on the way, it was considered bad luck and they would return home and set out again. The first person they encountered was called the first foot and would be given a coin and a drink of whisky by the bride. He would then have to accompany the bridal party for one mile before being allowed to continue on his way.
The Church, of the "Penny Wedding"~
Just outside the church they would be met by the clergyman and make their wedding vows. Then a ceremony was held in the church, during which the clergyman blessed food brought by the guests. It was traditional for the clergyman, however shy, to kiss the bride.
IRISH WEDDING THEME~~~~~

Irish wedding traditions for a lucky, lighthearted celebration!
You don't have to be Irish to enjoy a "lucky" Irish theme wedding and the Irish wedding traditions that make it special. A church would be a good setting for your Irish theme wedding, or if the season and weather permit for it, a garden or meadow with a view of rolling green hills reminiscent of the Emerald Isle. You might ask around to see if anyone knows of a priest or minister with an Irish brogue who could perform the ceremony using Irish wedding traditions. There are many more ideas for a meaningful Irish wedding , and at many other places on the web. How about in Ireland?

ITALIAN WEDDING TRADITIONS~~~~~
http://www.weddingchannel.com/ui/buildArticle.action?assetPath=/templates/Planning/cultural/cultural10.vm#Italy Early Roman brides wore garlands to insure fertility, and the crumbs of the cake broken over the bride's head were eagerly gathered up as good luck tokens. Other Italian traditions include: the bridal veil, originally worn to ward off evil spirits; ribbons tied at the church or reception, representing the bond of marriage; the wedding Mass; the buste, a satin bag carried by the bride which is filled with gifts of money by wedding guests; tossing the bouquet; and releasing white doves into the sky. Confetti, candy-covered almonds symbolic of the bitter and sweet in marriage are either tossed at the departing newlyweds, or given to guests as favors in tiny mesh bags.
INDIAN WEDDING TRADITIONS~~~~~
http://www.weddingchannel.com/ui/buildArticle.action?assetPath=/templates/Planning/cultural/cultural08.vm#India Though India is a large country with various regional customs, most are Hindu ceremonies. Several days before the ceremony, a bride is decorated with mehndi, or henna designs on her hands and feet. On the wedding day, brides wear red silk saris nine yards long, plus numerous gold bracelets, anklets and rings (which were once part of her dowry). Many grooms wear a dhoti, or long piece of cloth wrapped into pants. Male relatives and friends may carry the bride on a platform to meet her groom beneath a canopy or tent. She may apply sandalwood paste to the groom's forehead while he applies sindhur, or red powder, to hers. The couple is married before a small fire-lit vessel, which represents Agni, the god of fire or "radiant one." They make offerings by throwing puffed rice and ghee (clarified butter) into it throughout. Led by the priest, the couple declares their vows, and walks around the sacred fire seven times (sapta-padi, or seven steps). The ends of their clothing may be tied together to symbolize their union. The bride's parents then present gifts to the groom (e.g., red rice and betel plant). The groom then places a floral garland around his bride and a tali, or jewel set in gold suspended on a yellow thread, around her neck to symbolize her married status. At the end of the ceremony, the bride's brother or closest male relative showers the couple with jasmine flowers or rose petals for good luck.
There are hundreds of wedding themes available to you, but you are only limited by your own imagination, if you can dream it, you can do it! Here are a few more to stimulate your imagination, Most importantly, Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy ! Good Luck, Freda
